This study developed an open-access and realistic dataset titled "Synthetic Population Dataset", which is designed to aid in understanding cartographic processes and contextualizing cartographic works. Built upon the U.S. Census Summary File 1 (SF1), this dataset includes detailed demographic statistics for two counties in Ohio, with a total of roughly 1.2 million records. During its creation, an optimization model was utilized to minimize the disparity between the synthetic population data and official statistical figures. This dataset is primarily applied for contextual analysis within the cartography domain, particularly in scenarios where original sensitive data cannot be publicly released, to assist in comprehending and assessing the accuracy of cartographic data as well as the effects of privacy protection mechanisms.
