Student Debt and Families

This was a multi-method study that sought to understand experiences with student debt repayment after college. It also had a particular focus on how student debt might impact not just former students but their families as well. The study included: (1) two semi-structured interviews (one year apart) with recent college students about their educational experiences, supports exchanged with their families and, where appropriate, the transition to adulthood, (2) 12 monthly surveys with recent college students to track their debt repayment and financial supports exchanged with family during the time between interviews, (3) semi-structured interviews with parents of recent college student participants.<br><br>Submission includes metadata for participants, aggregate survey data, and materials used to conduct the study.
