This study published by DASSI was previously archived at UniData - Bicocca Data Archive. The study Participants in the ORA! 2016 and OPEN 2015 and 2016 calls for proposals (2015-2016) collects information on the participants in the ORA! (2016 edition) and OPEN (2015 and 2016 editions) calls, promoted by the Compagnia di San Paolo. The Compagnia di San Paolo is a private law foundation that pursues socially useful purposes, with the aim of fostering cultural, civil and economic development, with the income from its assets. Always attentive to the evolutions and new trends of the cultural scene, the Compagnia has decided to relaunch its commitment in this sense with the establishment in 2015 of a new operational area - the Cultural Innovation area - which now acts as a contact point for projects and actors in the cultural field that present innovative elements. Innovation is to be understood from different points of view and on different levels: the novelty of the expressive forms and languages used, a thematisation of new approaches to the relationship between culture and society, and a focus on the economic and productive dimension of culture. Starting in 2015, with the OPEN call, the Compagnia di San Paolo supports initiatives that aim to broaden and diversify the cultural demand from citizens through the experimentation of new forms of active involvement of the public. The call, dedicated to the North-West Italian regions, works on new models of relations between cultural institutions and audiences, identifying in the centrality of the public a possible lever for individual and territorial growth. In the two editions of the Call, a total of 315 projects applied and 31 projects were awarded, for a total commitment of €1,074,000. The ORA! call for proposals aims at fostering cultural production at a national level by supporting projects in the visual and performing arts and in the other expressive languages of contemporary culture, from a cross-disciplinary perspective and with a specific focus on new technologies. The call also aims at enriching the contemporary cultural offer of Piedmont and Liguria Italians regions, by attracting new subjects to produce in the area, connecting and systematising them with local institutions, as well as; encouraging the development of realities with strategic prospects for their own cultural proposal and economic sustainability. In the first edition, 250 applications were received from all over Italy and 20 projects were selected for a total commitment of €740,000. The data distributed includes information regarding: the participating entity, such as the province of residence, date of establishment of the organisation, legal form, etc.; the project presented, such as a set of key words to describe its content, the scope of the initiative and the type of target audience envisaged by the proposal. Finally, information on the budget submitted was collected, showing the budgeted income and expenditure as a percentage of the total amount of the project.
