Developing the next generation of biomaterials integrating the principles of a sustainable economy throughout its all-value chain is mandatory to our society, conservation of the environment, and biodiversity. An alternative that produces excellent results in the short term is based on self-generated functional textiles using fungal mycelium. The mycotextiles developed in the present invention, SPORATEX, explode biotechnology approaches by using novel and efficient native fungal strains of the Polyporaceae family with unique physiological, biochemical, metabolic, enzymatic, and phenotypic characteristics, which distinguish them from those species conventionally used for other players that are belonging to the Ganodermataceae family. In addition, the strategic combination with nanotechnological tools, materials engineering, and green chemistry allows obtaining new physicochemical and mechanical properties and functionalities of the mycelium for disruptive applications and expanding the current cosmovision of mycotextiles towards the development of new intelligent nano-bio materials as final biomaterials with high impact for society, environment conservation, and climate change mitigation. This BioProject represents the first genome sequencing of a fungal strain with high promissory abilities to produce next-generation of mycotextiles.
