A new species of <i>Prasophyllum</i> (Orchidaceae) for New Zealand and lectotypification of <i>P. colensoi</i>

A new species of leek orchid <i>Prasophyllum elegantissimum</i> is here described. The new species is segregated from <i>P. colensoi</i> based on genetic and morphological evidence. It inhabits wet grassy areas and wetland margins in the central North Island, South Island, Stewart Island and Auckland Island. The conservation status of <i>P. elegantissimum</i> is ranked Threatened – Nationally Vulnerable. We also designate a lectotype for <i>P. colensoi</i>.
