As an important secondary metabolic signaling molecule in the secondary metabolic pathway of plants, methyl jasmonate (MeJA) is often used to participate in the synthetic regulation of metabolites in plant (Pauwels et al. 2008). Several secondary metabolites were also found to increase accumulation in plant cell cultures upon MeJA induction, such as paclitaxel in Taxus cells (N and JC 1995; Shu-tao et al. 2012), terpenoid indole alkaloids in Catharanthus roseus cells (Rischer et al. 2006) and ginseng saponins in ginseng cells (Lu et al. 2001). However, there are still less studied that the biological mechanism of the induction of licorice flavonoids biosynthesis by MeJA and the associated changes in transcriptome.
