This dataset was developed by the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands to investigate the dynamics of air pockets formed when waves strike a solid wall. It contains experimental data for 67 distinct wave conditions: high-speed cameras were used to capture images before and after wave impact, paired with records of air pocket pressure changes collected by dynamic pressure sensors. The dataset creation process involved generating breaking waves with varying amplitudes and kinematics in a wave flume, and experimentally measuring parameters such as the oscillation frequency, maximum and minimum pressures of the air pockets. Its primary application domains are offshore engineering and structural design, aiming to predict the impact of wave loads on structures via machine learning models, thereby optimizing structural designs and enhancing safety.
