High Resolution X-ray Spectroscopy of the Vela Pulsar

GT We propose to observe the thermal emission from the Vela pulsar,phaseresolving the spectrum with the MOS and PN camera.s, and obtaining a high resolution spectrum of the photosphericemission with the RGS. The surrounding compact nebula will be spatially separated from the neutron star in the imaging camera.s, as well as inthe RGS crossdispersion direction.
