Global transcript expression was evaluated in salivary glands and intestine of fasted and 2, 9 day feeded insects. Various genes have their expression changed in the presence of blood and infection by T. cruzi, according to the tissue type. Based on that, it it presumable that T. cruzi tries to modulate the microenvironment to make nutrients available for itself in a competitive manner against microbiota, and toxic eukaryotic molecules for parasites in low levels, which may compromise the insect's metabolism and development.
