Magnetic excitations in the layered ferromagnet Sr4Ru3O10

Sr4Ru3O10 is the triple-layer member of the Ruddlesden-Popper ruthenates series. It exhibits ferromagnetic order below 105 K, and a strong anomalous Hall effect indicates the presence of Weyl points similar to the perovskite SrRuO3. We propose to study the magnetic excitations in Sr4Ru3O10 on Merlin to extend preliminary triple-axis experiments limited to below 12meV. We wish to study the crossover between the low-energy magnons and magnetic excitations more closely determined by the electronic band structure at high energy. Furthermore, we want to search nesting induced scattering reminiscent of the incommensurate fluctuations in Sr2RuO4. Due to the 2D character and due to less severe structural distortions, Sr4Ru3O10 should be even more favourable for these INS studies than the perovskite material.
