Nearshore sediments from estuaries and coastal zones adjacent to the three rivers in Eastern Guangdong, China were used to (i) establish the spatial variation of bacterial abundance and richness of bacteria; (ii) identify organisms closely related to abundant operational taxonomic units (OTUs); and (iii) assess the effect of environmental variables on metal-contaminated sediment bacterial communities.
