Under the Local Government (Shires) Act, 1905 (Act No. 33, 1905) a shire council was responsible for the care, control, construction, formation, fencing, maintenance and management of all public places within its territory, except those for which other constitutional arrangements were in place and, under section 40 of the Act, was obliged to maintain true and regular accounts of all sums of money received or paid.This volume details contributions to works of the Dumaresq Shire Council and provides the following information: date of approval, Council’s minute number, amount approved, locality, description of work, name of owner, occupier or body contributing to cost, unit, quantity, rate, total cost of work, job number, amount of contribution due, amount borne by the shire council, date amount sent out, and payment contribution. It shows contributions made to other councils as well as individuals. The entries are in chronological order.
