This research aims to utilize SXRF and XANES in order to produce multi element maps and highly localised Zn and Mn species maps of a\r\ntermite. This will refine previous investigations which employed PIXE imaging and SEM EDX. Specific localization of Zn/Mn within termites is now known within “concretions” associated with excretory organs and the mandible of the insect. The proposed research here will provide detailed understanding of the location and form of Zn and Mn present in termites and will be indispensable for understanding metal transfer, regulation and uptake from the environment in insects and will assist as an important contribution to the possible adaption of insect biogeochemistry as an exploration tool in Australia.\nLineage: Data was produced using the 2-ID-D X-ray nanoprobe beamline of the Advanced Photon Source (APS), Chicago, USA and processed using the GeoPIXE software package.
