The bowhead whale (Balaena mysticetus) is a longlived baleen whale endemic to Northern Hemisphere Arctic and subarctic waters. Although considered a single species, four populations are currently recognized for management purposes as stocks, primarily based on migratory patterns (Baird & Bickham, 2021).
