The Organization Study, 1975

This is a survey carried out by Norsk Gallup A/S in 1975 on behalf of “Maktutredningen”. The topic was the population's participation in organisations.

This file contains data from the national survey that was carried out as part of “Maktutredningen” (NOU 1982:3), carried out on a representative sample of the Norwegian people. 2,203 people were interviewed by Norsk Gallup. The interviews were carried out in February-March 1975. The interviewees were to be over 15 years of age. The interview form only includes questions from “Maktutredningen”. The aim was to survey people's connection to organizations and associations. In addition, several questions about political activity and community involvement were taken up. The question about campaigns formed only a limited part of the overall survey (Olsen & Sætren, 1980).

The interview survey was to investigate the organized and their attitudes towards their organisation, other organisations, attitudes towards various issues and towards society in general. People's political activity was important, both through the traditional channels and campaigns. In addition, several questions were also asked to investigate the unorganized in Norwegian society. This group makes up around a third of the Norwegian population. This was one of the reasons why the sample group was made as large as 2203; one should have material that could be representative of two groups; the organized and the unorganized.
