The transcriptomes of the sister species Senecio aethnensis and S. chrysanthemifolius, as well as the out group S. vernalis were sequenced. The primary aim of the study was to estimate the divergence time of the sister species and detect genomic signatures of interspecific gene flow. Secondary goals included assembling a reference transcriptome for the species and estimating the level of selection across the transcriptome.
