Exogenous sucrose alleviates low-light stress in tomato plants

Low light (LL) stress damages plant growth and productivity. Sucrose functions both as an energy source and a signal molecule, while its effects on plant LL tolerance and the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. We sprayed sucrose on the leaves of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and investigated its effects using physiological and molecular approaches. Through this study, we identified the role of exogenous sucrose in enhancing plant LL tolerance.
