Dataset from Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources

Background: The purpose of this study was to improve SARS-CoV-2 vaccine uptake among highly susceptible populations in Oklahoma, a state facing significant health disparities due to its large rural population, limited healthcare access, and overall poor health outcomes. COVID-19 had revealed clear disparities related to age, chronic illness, and social determinants of health, which were especially pronounced in Oklahoma’s underserved communities. Materials/Methods: This study leveraged established partnerships with the Oklahoma State Department of Health, Southern Plains Tribal Health Board, Latino Community Development Agency, County Health Improvement Organizations, Public Health Institute of Oklahoma, and the Center for Applied Social Research. These collaborations were used to strengthen community engagement, expand public health capacity, and address gaps in COVID-19 testing and vaccination among rural and underserved populations. Outcome/Impact: The study enhanced public health infrastructure and increased community-based testing and vaccination efforts across rural Oklahoma. The intended outcome was to improve access, reduce disparities in vaccine uptake, and strengthen the state’s capacity to respond to current and future public health crises.
