Rapidly Deployable 3D-Printed Biosensing Platforms for Test and Evaluation Applications

This study presents the development and evaluation of low-cost biosensing platforms designed for rapid test and evaluation (T&E) applications via additive manufacture techniques. Using fused filament fabrication (FFF), three different sized biosensors were produced from conductive polylactic acid (CPLA), graphene-enhanced PLA (GPLA), and standard PLA (PPLA). The sensors were assessed in terms of dimensional accuracy, fluid flow simulation using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, and electrical impedance response. Results demonstrate that graphene-enhanced materials provide improved dimensional consistency and electrical performance to enable more reliable sensing compared to the other materials. These enhanced properties support agile T&E cycles and a viable application in field-deployable diagnostics.
