Consumption-based Carbon Emissions for Deforestation (2001–2015)

This dataset presents a global, consumption-based carbon emissions for deforestation from 2001 to 2015, offering a novel and comprehensive perspective on trade-related deforestation emissions. Created at a 1 km resolution, it integrates multiple data sources, including spatial data on deforestation, forest carbon fluxes, road networks, and global trade statistics.Key insights from this dataset reveal that global trade-related carbon emissions from deforestation account for 31.0% of total carbon emissions caused by deforestation worldwide. The data highlights that the top 20 countries are responsible for over 80% of these consumption-based emissions, with high-income countries accounting for 68.8% of the emissions hidden within trade flows. However, the role of lower-income countries is also growing, driven by rising consumption in wealthier nations.<b>Data Access</b>: The dataset is publicly available for further research and policy formulation. It can be used to analyze trade impacts on deforestation, assess emissions in various regions, and guide sustainable consumption and production strategies globally.
