Transcriptome profile of active EoE. Homo sapiens

The EoE Diagnostic Panel (EDP) can distinguish between active and non-active EoE using a set of 77 genes. Recently, distinct EoE variants featuring symptoms similar to EoE, such as esophageal dysfunction but lacking eosinophil infiltration, had been determined. Thus, biomarkers for accurate diagnosis of EoE are urgently needed in clinical practice. We used esophageal tissue samples from EoE patients with histologically active disease (n=10) or being in histologic remission (n=9) as well as from healthy control individuals (n=5) taking part in the Swiss Eosinophilic Esophagitis Cohort Study (SEECS) and analyzed the gene expression profile in such biopsies by total RNAseq.
