Honeycomb oyster (Hyotissa hyotis) BIRUG 19250

BIRUG 19250 is a specimen of *Hyotissa hyotis*, commonly known as the giant honeycomb oyster. The common name of this group of oysters – 'honeycomb' or 'foam' oysters – refers to the structure of their shell when viewed under magnification, being similar to honeycomb or foam. This marine bivalve, like many others is a filter feeder and is found in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, off the coast of Colombia, the Red Sea and some coastal parts of eastern Africa, including Madagascar.
