Swinton speaks about her involvement of academic librarians in the certification of the Carleton University Academic Staff Association (CUASA) in the mid 1970s. She took an active role in creating the Association of Professional Librarians at Carleton University (APLCU) and in buliding a relationship with Prof. Jill Vickers, the current CUASA president. She describes the events leading up to the decision to seek membership in CUASA and describes the context in which this significant shift in occupational status took place, including the gendered the nature of the university workplace.
