On July 23, 1972, the United States launched the world's first resource satellite, Landsat 1. In the subsequent decade, Landsat 2 and Landsat 3 were launched sequentially. These three satellites belong to the first generation of resource satellites, equipped with Return Beam Vidicon (RBV) cameras and Multispectral Scanner (MSS) instruments. They have 3 and 4 spectral bands respectively, with a spatial resolution of 79 meters and a swath width of 185 km.
