This data and script are part of the publication "Small Collisions, High Impact: The Sensitivity of Atmospheric Temperatures to Collision-Induced Absorption" by Dahlbüdding et al. (subm.).The zipped "hitran_cia.tar.gz" contains all the HITRAN CIA data, along with some extended data, converted to the HELIOS format, used in the paper. The script "create_CIAopacs.py" enables the conversion (and possible extrapolation) of HITRAN CIA data into the correct format for use in HELIOS. Use it with: python create_CIAopacs.py path/to/hitran/opacity.cia path/to/sample/helios/opacity.h5 path/to/output.h5 \ --pair CO2-CH4 --mu 16.04 --advanced where the sample HELIOS opacity is used to generate the output P-T grid. The pair should be written as, e.g., "CO2-CH4", and the MMW of the second collision partner should be given in AMUs, e.g., 16.04 for CH4. To use all CIA opacities in HELIOS, be sure to update the species database (in HELIOS/source/species_database.py, which can also be downloaded from here) and include them in the HELIOS/input/species.dat file.
