Fe-reducing enrichment culture from Chocolate Pots hot springs, Yellowstone National Park

Sequences from an enrichment culture of the endogenous microbial community at Chocolate Pots hot springs (CP). Enrichments were designed to study the potential for microbial iron reduction of native CP Fe(III)-oxide sediments to assess the possible involvement of dissimilatory iron reduction in Fe redox cycling at CP. Fe-based metabolic processes are deeply rooted phylogenetically and studying modern environments like CP are important in gaining understanding of ancient Earth ecosystems.
