The work was developed in 2019, in the Provincial Research Station of Sugarcane of Holguín with the objective of studying the effect of different plant covers on the spatial variability of the soil penetration resistance in a Chromic Vertisol. An area of 2.028 ha was chosen with sugarcane, natural grass and secondary forest. 47 points were irregularly established to determine the soil penetration resistance every 10 cm up to 30 cm depth. An exploratory data analysis was performed, the experimental semivariograms were adjusted and the soil penetration resistance was mapped. The spatial dependence was determined. The experimental semivariograms were adjusted by theoretical spherical models, except for the 20-30 cm layer (gaussian); in this, depending on the degree of dependence of Cambardella, there is a <i>moderate</i> spatial dependence. For the rest, it is <i>strong</i>. The spatial dependency index of Seidel and Olivera indicate a <i>strong</i> spatial dependence at all depths. From 0-10 cm, the soil penetration resistance in sugarcane was classified as <i>low</i> to <i>moderate</i> and <i>moderate</i> to <i>high</i> in the other plant covers. In the remaining layers, in sugarcane and natural grass were classified as <i>moderate </i>to <i>high</i>, and in secondary forest from <i>high </i>to <i>very high</i>.
