W-Band Radar Measurements RV Meteor, EUREC4A

W-band 94 GHz Doppler cloud radar measurements collected on board the RV Meteor during the EUREC4A field campaign from 17.01.2020 to 19.02.2020 in the Caribbean Sea close to Barbados. The radar was mounted in a passive stabilization platform developed by the radar manufacturer Radiometer Physics GmbH Meckenheim, Germany. This platform corrected for the pitch and roll motion of the ship to assure that the radar was vertically pointing.
Retrieved variables include radar reflectivity, mean Doppler velocity, spectral width, skewness, kurtosis and linear depolarization ratio. In addition the radar uses a 89 GHz passive channel to measure the brightness temperature and retrieve the liquid water path.
Due to the heave motion of the ship the measured Doppler spectra contain a systematic error. This is corrected for by a post processing routine which was developed together with Claudia Acquistapace from University Cologne and will be described in more detail in Acquistapace et al., 2021. The corrected Doppler spectra are then dealiased and the mean Doppler velocity is calculated.
