Constructivist Grounded Theory Dataset on Transnational Environmental Regulation, Private Standards, and Critical Minerals Mining in Brazil

This dataset documents the coding framework and methodological materials developed with the support of ATLAS.ti, drawing on a constructivist grounded theory approach informed by Charmaz. It was created to support qualitative research on transnational environmental regulation, private environmental standards, corporate governance, and critical minerals mining in Brazil. The dataset is based on a collection of corporate and related documents concerning mining companies operating in Brazil, as well as investment firms, holding companies, subsidiaries, and other corporate actors connected to critical mineral value chains. The documentary collection covers Energy Minerals Group and Serra Verde, Appian Capital, Atlantic Nickel, Lithium Ionic, Sigma Lithium, Sigma Lithium Holdings, Sigma Mineração S.A., Sigma Industrial Lítio, AMG Critical Materials and AMG Brasil S.A., and Vale S.A. The repository provides methodological information, a structured document catalogue, and a codebook developed for the organization and analysis of the documentary material. It is intended to facilitate transparency, traceability, and the potential reuse or extension of the research design in studies of transnational regulation, private standards, environmental governance, critical minerals, electric vehicle value chains, and the political economy of sustainability in the context of the energy transition. The repository does not present the study’s analytical findings, interpretive conclusions, or the relationships identified among the coded categories. These elements are reserved for the corresponding academic publications. The original corporate documents were produced by third parties and remain subject to their respective copyright and terms of use. Accordingly, the repository does not redistribute the full-text documents. Instead, it provides document titles, corporate authorship, publication dates, document types, official source links, access dates, and information on their inclusion in the analytical corpus. This dataset was developed within the scope of the research project “Transnational Regulation in Electric Vehicle Value Chains between Brazil and China: Implications of Private Environmental Standards,” funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), grant number 24/15776-9.
