This research project is centered on the isolation and characterizations of novel bacterial strains that can tolerate heavy metal-induced stress and produce commercially important carotenoids. Whole genome sequencing of these bacterial strains can lead to the identification of novel genes which have potential applications in environmental bioremediation and commercial production of important carotenoids and pigments like beta carotene and decaprenoxanthin.
