资源简介:
This collection comprises a dataset from the archaeological evaluation at the site of a proposed solar farm development for Lancaster University in Forrest Hills, Lancaster. This work was undertaken by Oxford Archaeology North in February 2023. The majority of features were identified as probable boundary ditches. Recovered palaeoenvironmental remains showed that there was charcoal from the surrounding area as well as charred hazelnut shells which can be indicative of prehistoric activity. Although the ditches are unlikely to date from this period, it would suggest that earlier deposits had been disturbed by their excavation. Two pits contained evidence of dumped burnt material, likely from a hearth, suggesting nearby activity. Radiocarbon dating of charcoal from multiple features indicates a relatively long period of activity at the site which began in the early Bronze Age and continued into the Iron Age.
