To reveal the nature of Bombyx mori W chromosome, we analyzed PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs), which is known to silence transposons in the germ line cells, derived from B. mori male and female gonads with different types of W chromosome. As a result, we successfully identified piRNAs deriving from the sex-determining region of W chromosome.
