Dataset, Statistical Output, and Age-Stratified Analysis: Financial Barriers and Depression among Florida Hispanics (2022-2023)

This repository contains the raw data extracts and statistical analytical outputs supporting the manuscript titled: "The Mental Cost of Insolvency: Financial Barriers and Depression among Florida Hispanics." Methodology: The study utilizes aggregated data from the Florida Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). The analysis focuses on a pooled cross-sectional sample of Hispanic adults (n=2,543) spanning the years 2022 and 2023. To control for confounding, a stratified analysis was performed to calculate the age-adjusted Odds Ratio using the Mantel-Haenszel method. Files included in this repository (Compressed in .rar archive): 1. Raw_Data_Source_BRFSS_FL_2022_2023.pdf Content: Original output from the Florida Health Charts query system (CDC/BRFSS). Significance: Displays the overall weighted prevalence rates (21.9% vs. 12.7%) and total raw sample sizes used for the primary association analysis. 2. Statistical_Output_EPIDAT.pdf Content: Analytical report generated using EPIDAT 3.1 software. Significance: Provides the calculation of the Unadjusted (Crude) Odds Ratio of 1.92, serving as the baseline estimate before controlling for age. 3. Raw_data_agecontrol_BRFSS_2022_2023.pdf Content: Stratified data report from the Florida Health Charts system. Significance: Breaks down the cross-tabulation by four specific age groups (18-24, 25-44, 45-64, ≥65). This file provides the raw input counts (n) required for the stratified analysis. 4. statistical_output_ajustbyage_EPIDAT3.1.pdf Content: Detailed statistical report showing the individual risk estimates for each age stratum. Significance: Demonstrates the variation in risk across age groups, specifically highlighting the elevated Odds Ratio (OR: 4.14) observed in the elderly population (≥65 years). 5. Statistical_Supplement_Mantel_Haenszel.pdf Content: A supplementary methodological report. Significance: Details the manual calculation of the Mantel-Haenszel Adjusted Odds Ratio (aOR: 2.02). It includes the stratified contingency tables, the statistical formulas used for the adjustment, and the Robins-Breslow-Greenland confidence interval calculation.
