Tracing spatial interaction and collaborative inquiry learning in a metaverse: A log-based comparison study of Gather Town and a web-based environment

This dataset contains the de-identified data and analysis materials supporting the findings reported in the article “Tracing spatial interaction and collaborative inquiry learning in a metaverse: A log-based comparison study of Gather Town and a web-based environment.” The dataset includes four files: (1) activity performance data, including students’ worksheet scores; (2) individual learning performance data, including conceptual understanding pretest and posttest scores; (3) interest in science learning data; and (4) system operation logs and derived spatial trace indicators captured by the Virtual Space Learning Analytic Tool (VSLAT). These files provide the values underlying the reported descriptive statistics, inferential analyses, tables, and figures in the manuscript. To protect participants’ privacy, all data have been de-identified. The dataset does not include students’ names, school names, raw dialogue records, or other directly identifiable information. Because detailed spatial trace records may reveal students’ movement trajectories, peer encounters, and participation patterns, only de-identified and derived indicators used for the reported analyses are publicly shared. Raw spatial trace logs and detailed location records are not publicly available due to ethical and privacy considerations.
