Z. armatum is planted in germplasm resources of Chinese pepper, Yongchuan District, Chongqing, China. According to the growth of the fruit, the five developmental stages are divided into: the primary green stage (S1), the fruits are formed about 2 months after blooming (April, 2020); the medium green stage (S2), the fruits are enlarged about 3 months after blooming (May, 2020); the peak green stage (S3), the fruits are continued enlarged to basic shape about 4 months after blooming (June, 2020); the primary red stage (S4), the fruits begin to turn red about 5 months after blooming (July, 2020); the fully-mature red stage (S5), the fruits turn completely red, and the seeds mature about 6 months after blooming (August, 2020). Three biological replicates were collected at each stage, and each replicate included samples of three different plants.
