VPRS 14780 Inwards Registered Correspondence, Pastoral Runs, Section 78 Land Act 1869

Section 78 Land Act 1869 provided that the license to occupy for any portion of a pastoral run which had been purchased, otherwise leased or licensed or proclaimed as a common would be revoked. At the same time the former licensee could, with a payment of five pounds apply to have the rent payable reduced.This series consists of folders containing correspondence relating to such applications which had been forwarded to the Pastoral Occupation Branch of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey for appropriate action. The folders have a summary of the contents. A listing is given by district of the name of the run, the name of the licensee, the area prior to reduction, the number of sheep prior to the reduction, the area alienated and the date, the proposed reduction in the number of sheep, and the number of sheep upon which it was proposed that rent be charged. The remarks column was used to record the total sum.Correspondence consists of the application and the face sheet placed on the correspondence upon receipt which records the name of correspondent and subject, registration numbers and annotations by officers dealing with the matter.
