Novel antibiotics search via systems approach

A novel antibiotics discovery project that uses systems approach to tackling drug resistance by exploiting natural products. The project was started under the DDIR Innovation Awards program. The goals of this project are to discover new natural product antibiotics effective against high-priority drug-resistant pathogens, to build a microbial strain and compound library from antibiotic-producing organisms and to mine bacterial genomes for gene clusters encoding novel natural products. It is supported by the NIH Intramural Research Program at the National Library of Medicine, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, US Department of Health and Human Services.
