Sediment samples from three hearths or hearth dump areas at sites 5DA2299 and
5DA2300 were floated to recover macrofloral remains to provide subsistence information
concerning plant resources utilized by the occupants of these sites. In addition, a mano found
in the hearth/hearth dump at 5DA2299 was washed for pollen, starches, and phytoliths in order
to determine plants hat might have been processed using this tool. These sites are located
south of Denver near the town of Parker in central Colorado. The hearths were exposed by
construction scrapers that cut off the top portion of the features. Radiocarbon ages ranging
from 1560 to 2040 BP on charred material from the hearths/hearth dump areas indicate Late
Prehistoric occupation of the area.
