资源简介:
This essay explores how remote work has become a lifeline for Lebanese professionals amid the country’s ongoing economic collapse. Drawing on lived experiences — from engineers in Tripoli to researchers in Rayfoun — it illustrates the systemic barriers Lebanese freelancers face, including unreliable internet, exclusion from global payment platforms, and high transaction costs. Despite these obstacles, remote work enables many to remain in Lebanon while connecting economically to global markets, offering an alternative to large-scale emigration. The essay situates these personal accounts within broader policy debates, comparing Lebanon’s ad-hoc digital survival strategies with structured approaches in Jordan and Cyprus. It argues that remote work, if supported by clear legal, financial, and infrastructural frameworks, could serve not only as a coping mechanism but as a cornerstone of economic resilience, diaspora engagement, and social renewal.
