The flavin-mediated visible-light photocatalytic insertion of CO2 into C(sp2)–H bonds of (hetero)arenes together with dearomative carboxylation was achieved depending on reaction conditions and apllied flavin photocatalyst. Highly reduc ing 5-(o-tolyl)deazaalloxaxine (oMe-dAll) enables efficient access to aryl alkanoic acids and complex three-dimensional carboxylated scaffolds from readily available aromatic substrates.
