Fire-footed rope squirrels (Funisciurus pyrropus) are a reservoir host of monkeypox virus (Orthopoxvirus monkeypox)

This dataset contains raw data generated from necropsy and faecal samples used in this study. This includes raw sequencing data from (i) MPXV hybridization capture experiments (n=5), (ii) a fire-footed rope squirrel mitogenome hybridization capture experiment, and (iii) mammal metabarcoding experiments performed on sooty mangabey fecal DNA extracts (n=78). We also provide consensus sequences of the MPXV genomes derived from the fire-footed rope squirrel and mangabeys, and of the fire-footed rope squirrel mitogenome. A spreadsheet provides the information linking individual samples to sequencing files as well as tag information necessary to demultiplex the data from the metabarcoding experiments.
