Pongo mpox virus genomes from museum specimens linked to the documented outbreak in the Rotterdam Zoo in 1965

We present full and partial mpox genomes from Pongo museum specimens, closely related to a published strain from a documented outbreak in the Rotterdam Zoo 1964/65. We could identify the mpox outbreak they succumbed to, demonstrating that natural history collections can help investigate previous disease outbreaks.
