Pension participants per average funding ratio Netherlands 2015-2022

Since the first quarter of 2015, most of the pension participants in the Netherlands had a funding ratio lower than 110 percent. In the first quarter of 2022, there were approximately four million participants in pension funds with a funding ratio of less than 110 percent. There were 55 pension funds in the Netherlands with a funding ratio of less than 110 percent in the first quarter of 2022.The source lists that the funding ratio compares the assets from a pension fund against its liabilities and shows the financial health of Dutch pension funds. A percentage over 100 shows the assets outweigh the liabilities. Should pension funds be unable to reach that on the 31st of December, they are forced to create a plan of recovery. The funding ratio is reported to the Dutch Central Bank (DNB).
