Dataset of Gibellula species

Species of Gibellula are distributed worldwide. Eight new species, Gibellula alboflava, G. ellipsoidea, G. hersiliidarum, G. latinivea, G. lutea, G. pholcidarum, G. songkhlaensis and G. tropica were found and described from Thailand. The identification is based on morphological observation combined with phylogenetic analysis of ITS, LSU, tef, RPB1 and RPB2. This study enriched the species diversity of Gibellula in Thailand and provided important data support for the systematic study of Gibellula in the future. We explore the antiviral potential of crude extracts derived from various species of Gibellula sp. against infection by human coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 (belonging to the Betacoronavirus genus), and swine coronavirus, PEDV (belonging to the Alphacoronavirus genus). Gibellula pulchra BCC 90969 as a potential antiviral candidate due to its ability to suppress SARS-CoV-2 replication, through inhibition of the viral 3CLpro enzyme.
