A metabolomic based evaluation of the role of commensal microbiota throughout gastrointestinal tract in mice

Commensal microbiota is colonized on the surface of our entire body. The inside of the gastrointestinal tract is also regarded as one of surfaces and provides as a habitat for them. The gastrointestinal tract is a long organ and comprises of various parts where each part has different functions. It has been reported that the composition of intestinal luminal metabolites between the small and large intestine is different, however comprehensive metabolomic and commensal microbiota profile specific to each part of gastrointestinal lumen remain obscure.We therefore investigated the metabolome and microbiome profile of specific pathogen-free (SPF) mice in in each part of gastrointestinal tract.
