Due to historical reasons, the United States has developed a deeply rooted gun culture. The frequency of shooting incidents in the US is extremely high, and gun violence incidents far exceed those of all other developed countries worldwide. Americans own approximately 265 million firearms, with each adult holding more than one firearm. On average, 9 out of every 10 days witness a shooting incident. The United States ranks first globally in terms of gun ownership rate, gun homicide rate and the number of mass shooting incidents. 2022 marked the third consecutive year that the US recorded over 600 mass shooting incidents, with gun violence causing more than 80,000 casualties. Gun violence has become "an American disease". CnOpenData has established a data display section and data index for the US Mass Shooting Violence Project dataset to facilitate scholars' browsing. This dataset contains information on the US Mass Shooting Violence Project since 1966, including detailed shooting incident information, firearm details, victim information, community-related data and trend analysis data, which supports relevant academic research.
