RNA-Seq of Lon protease in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium

The ATP-dependent Lon protease plays a major role in protein quality control, and also involves in regulating pathogenicity in several bacterial pathogens. In Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium), Lon has been reported to be required for the full virulence of this pathogen. However, the underlying mechanisms and the regulatory network of Lon in S. Typhimurium remain unclear. Here, using RNA-seq method, we assessed the effect of Lon on S. Typhimurium gene expression and showed that Lon regulates the expression of many genes associated with virulence.
