In this study, we developed a new metabarcoding protocol for stomach content samples and applied it to the golden Alpine salamander Salamandra atra aurorae, an endangered endemism of the Italian Alps. Two fragments of Cytochrome Oxidase I were used to detect 177 prey taxa (103 to species) in 53 samples collected from the study area (Province of Trento, Italy).
