Gut-associated microbes are present and active in the pig nasal cavity

This data set aims to study the presence of gut-microbiota associated taxa in the nasal microbiota of piglets at weaning. Here, we tackled this issue by examining the prevalence, origin, and activity of these taxa using a combination of 16SrRNA amplicon sequencing of DNA (total communities) and cDNA retrotranscribed from RNA (active communities) in matched nasal and rectal in vivo samples obtained from individual animals. Moreover, this data set includes surgical sampling of the inner nasal tract, keeping away contaminations of the swab from the sampling procedure (see paper).
