The records were originally created by the Electricity Department of the Municipal Council of Sydney (1913-1935) which subsequently became Sydney County Council in 1936. The series consists of the administrative files created to support the day to day operations of Sydney County Council and its predecessor agency, the Electricity Department of the Municipal Council of Sydney.The series reflects the administrative records created and maintained initially by the Electricity Department of the Municipal Council of Sydney and subsequently the Sydney County Council in relation to the electricity distribution in Sydney from its beginnings in the twentieth century with street lights through to widespread domestic and industrial uses up to 1988.
